Shopping and Marriage...

Meri pyaari maate, aap mujhe kyun sataate? Yes, she does bug me; she does nag me. I love it :)

Anyways, Who doesn’t?!?! We all love our respective mother, but there are certain things you’d wish she wouldn’t do or say. I love whatever mom says or does, but there are certain things I seriously wish she’d stop doing and talking about it. They are the following:

  • Taking me for apparel shopping
  • Marriage

1st : Apparel Shopping

Every time I’m back in USA, my mom always nags me for apparel shopping. If there’s one thing that I detest in life, it's cloth shopping. Tell me to go grocery shopping with you; I would happily love to go, but cloths shopping no way!!!! Time killer! It’s a total time killer!

Let me try to exemplify:

You go in the store, search for shirts, find one that you like (limited by price tag) try it on…..oh darn, it doesn’t fit you…you look fat in it….something or the other!....somehow it just looked good on the hanger on display…so never mind…Let’s put this back on the rack = waste of time!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is worse when you have wasted so much time picking out quite a few shirts after shuffling through gazillion shirts and then try them on one by one, only to find out after trying that it was a wasteeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!! Why would I waste my time like that?

Okay, maybe it’s just me! Perhaps cloths don't like me that much?!...IDK!!!! Whatever!!!!

Oh, now the shoes. I can never find anything that I like. If I do like something, again I’m restricted by the price tag (I myself make that a restriction to refrain myself from spending too much money on buying expensive stuff that I could otherwise save....YES, I'M A MISER!!!! lol...)
It’s not that dad wouldn't pay for a shoe that I'd like to buy, which might be a bit overpriced, it’s just that I don’t wanna waste money on some crappy cloth or shoe/sandal that I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing. I too wanted to buy winter boots, but haven’t bought it cuz I didn't find one that I could buy, not cuz of the price (that's a secondary excuse), but mainly due to the reason that some were crappy, or too fancy looking, and worse of all….most had HEELS!!!! Gosh!! I always wonder how people walk in them, esp in those pencil tip heels. It always amuses me to see girls walk in them, and that too in snow….simply astounding!!!!!!

Mom was very disappointed in me that I didn’t find any snow boots this winter…again! My third consecutive year without any snow boots. Yey!!!!! Just one more year…just one more year!!!!!! Lol…

That’s my disliking of shopping!!!! Well, it’s not like I totally detest it. I mean, I have to do apparel shopping. It’s one of the basic survival necessities of life. So I only do it when mom nags me to, otherwise, when in Toronto, Neha only does grocery shopping! :) And this is one shopping that I love doing! :D hehehehe…

2nd: Marriage

Here’s what I have noticed about any parent worrying about: marriage of their growing up children (of course when they reach that marriageable age, esp that of a girl…)

I, being a girl, (surprise, surprise!!! lol...) should not be worrying about marriage at this age, but my mom does…A LOT!)

Here’s what mom says: “Padh lo beta padh lo…kyunki ab tumhaara chehra dekh kar toh koi tumse shaadi karne waala hai nahi, isliye acche se padho…khoob mann laga ke padho!"

…I love it how she motivates me to study now.
Before it used to be just 'study beta study’…now it’s ‘study otherwise no one will marry you.’

(This whole conversation sounded funnier and much better when I had this conversation with my mom in Bhojpuri...)

Here’s another incident that happened when I was at home in India this June:

One of my buas (one of dad’s younger sisters), who resides in Mumbai, was telling me about a guy who lives in Mumbai, he’s in the Navy, his sir name is Pandey and blah blah blah….Who cares!!!! Does it look like I want to get married at this age? C’mon!!

Here’s what I told her:

1st of all, I don’t want to marry.

2nd: I’m only in my 3rd year of Undergraduate studies.

3rd of all, I don’t want to marry a Pandey. Why should I marry a Pandey, Shukla, Dwivedi or Tiwari? Find me a ‘Misra'...I don’t want to change my last name! Do you know how much of a hassle it is for a girl after her sir name changes? Every document will need to be reissued…oh, on top of that, time and waste of money!!!!! So it’s better to marry someone with the same sir name so that the hassle could be kept at minimal, if not be totally obliterated.

This whole conversation, of course, was in Bhojpuri…Pure Eastern UPian Bhojpuri. She could not help but pull my cheeks and do the 'cootchie-cootchie-koo'!!! Oh my cheeks!!! :D lol :)
